Description of Dance Classes
Beginning level combination classes are introductory dance classes for students ages 2 ½ to 12 with 0-2 years of dance experience. These classes meet one time per week.
PRESCHOOL DANCE are for children ages 2 ½ to 3 and 3 to 4, are two of our most popular classes. These are 30 or 45 minute classes where students are introduced to dance, music, and creative activities. 30 minute classes focus primarily on ballet, creative movement, and basic tumbling, while a 45 minute class includes these things as well as tap dancing. The vocabulary and steps covered in Preschool Dance can be mastered by a preschooler and also builds self-confidence.
BEGINNER COMBINATION CLASSES are introductory dance classes for students ages 2 ½ through school grade 5 with 0-2 years of dance experience. Unless otherwise noted on the schedule, these classes focus primarily on ballet and tap or ballet and jazz. Creative movement and basic tumbling is included into the curriculum for all children ages 5 and under. Beginner combination classes are available to students of all elementary ages and meet one time per week. Beginner classes for older students are also available.
BEGINNER-PLUS LEVEL CLASSES are for students with two or more years of dance experience entering grades kindergarten through 5th. All Beginner Plus students must take a ballet technique class as a base class and may add choreography classes in tap, jazz, or ballet which each perform a dance in recital. Dancers enter this level and all higher levels by teacher recommendation.
HIP HOP/JAZZ CLASSES are for all levels of dance experience for ages 8 through adult. Hip hop is a fast, high energy type of dance. At Caledonia Dance Center, our teachers incorporate the fundamentals of jazz dancing with hip hop moves. This strengthens dancers technically while teaching the popular, more contemporary style of hip hop. For dance team preparation and skill enhancement, check out these classes!
ADULT JAZZ, HIP HOP, TAP, AND BALLET CLASSES are for ladies ages 18 and up. Women in our adult classes learn moves and routines in a casual atmosphere. Many of our adult students take these classes as a fitness activity. Introductory through advanced levels are available for adult students.
NEW! BALLROOM/SOCIAL DANCING for adult men and woman. No partner needed! These classes are offered throughout the year in 6- and 8-week segments. Each session varies in curriculum, but typically includes salsa, swing, waltz, and other popular forms of social dancing.
